B. JOAN CARSTENS, 93, of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at her home in Aurelia, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at Boothby Funeral Home. Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate. Joan was born on December 26, 1931 to Herman and Ona (Mongan) McKenzie at Cherokee, Iowa. She graduated from Cherokee Schools. She was united in marriage on March 28, 1952 to Gordon Carstens.
She worked as a secretary at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital and also the ALCO store cutting fabric.
In her free time she enjoyed cake decorating and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon Carstens, daughter Pamela Carstens, , brother Gerald (Annabella) McKenzie, sister Betty McKenzie, son-in-law David Stodden , brother-in-law Rodney Bainbridge.
Joan is survived by her children Joyce (Lynn) White of Stratford, Iowa, Sally Stodden of Marcus, Iowa, and Peggy (Roger) Seel of Cherokee, Iowa; eight grandchildren Karl (Jenn) Stodden of LeMars, Iowa, Tim Stodden of Marcus, Iowa, Barb Stodden of Forest Grove, Oregon, Adam Stodden (Amanda Snowden) of Colfax, Iowa, Ginny (Bill) Eskildsen of Kansas City, Missouri, Ben (Jenn) Seel of Independence, Kansas, Fred (Candi) Seel of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mari Seel (Ried Petersen) of Ottumwa, Iowa; 10 great grandchildren D.J. and Hunter Stodden, Leah and Colin Eskildsen, Maddie, Nic, Theo, and McKenzie Seel, Alina and Christina Seel; sister Priscilla Bainbridge of Cherokee, Iowa; brother Stan (Mary Jo) McKenzie of Rogers, Arkansas; also several nieces and nephews.
