Quimby Watermelon Days are finally here

Quimby Watermelon Days will be held this weekend Friday, Aug. 16 and Saturday, Aug. 17. 

Despite being postponed from its original days in June due to flooding, events kick off on Friday with the Church Food Stand opening at 11 a.m. in the Quimby Community Center. The Quimby Fire Department Beer Garden opens at 5 p.m. 

McDermott Family Shows Midway and rides will open at 5 p.m.

Participants in the Kids Parade need to line up at the water shed at 5:30 p.m. and the parade will start at 6 p.m.

The Bingo stand will open at 6:30 p.m. Cash drawings will be held at 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. You must be present to win. The CRS band will play at the Quimby Fire Station from 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Saturday's lineup of events begin at 7 a.m. with registration for the 5K Run/Walk at the fire station. The 5K begins at 8 a.m.

The Melon Patch Market opens at 9 a.m. and will run until 3 p.m. in the Quimby City Park. Many vendors will be present.

Registration for the bean bag tournament begins at 9 a.m. with the tournament starting at 10 a.m. in the park.

Registration for the poker run begins at 10 a.m. and ends at noon. The poker run is open to cars, motorcycles and side-by-sides. The poker run will travel to Kingsley, Remson, Marcus and Cherokee before returning to Quimby by 5:30 p.m.

The Quimby Firemen’s Beer Garden will open at 10 a.m. The Church Food stand will open at 11 a.m.

At noon, Special K'z Clown Show will be held near the Bingo stand. The Cakewalk begins at 1 p.m. in the fire station.

Everyone will enjoy Professor Von Air's Balloon Creations from 2:30-4:30 p.m. near the Bingo stand.

Saturday is Kids Day on the Midway with ride tickets being discounted from 3-5 p.m.

The Bingo stand will open at 6 p.m. and will close at 10 p.m. Bob's Bargains will be open from 8-10 p.m.

Free watermelon will be served at 8 p.m. near the fire station. The band Slow Jam will entertain at the fire station from 8 p.m. until midnight. The raffle drawing will be held at 10 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 10 p.m.
