BONNIE J. LEWIS, 85, of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Accura Healthcare of Cherokee. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Aurelia First United Methodist Church.  Pastor Brenton Lopez will officiate.  Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.  Visitation with the family present will be on Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Aurelia First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in Bonnie’s honor.

Bonnie was born on June 26, 1939 to George and Letha (Small) Smith at Cherokee, Iowa.  She attended Cherokee Schools, graduating in 1957.  She was united in marriage on December 21, 1957 to Vernon Klumpp.  They were blessed with three children, Kathryn, Michael, and Christopher.  On December 24, 1987, Bonnie married Gary Lewis.  They shared many happy years together until her death. 

During her career, Bonnie worked for a number of local banks.  At the age of 60, Bonnie pursued a career in real estate.  She successfully passed the real estate license exam and worked as a realtor in the area until her retirement in 2014. 

She was a member of the Aurelia First United Methodist Church.  She was an active member in the Aurelia Historical Society and the ACC Club.  Bonnie was especially proud of her family’s history in Cherokee County and the George A. Smith Farm’s designation as a Centennial Farm. Bonnie and Gary enjoyed many summers spending time at Lake Okoboji with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ed Smith and Floyd (Carlen) Smith and Sister Ruby Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Gary of Aurelia, Iowa; daughter, Kathryn (Steve) Warner of Gardnerville, Nevada, Michael (Jean) Klumpp of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Chris (Jerri) Klumpp of Aurelia, Iowa. Bonnie was incredibly proud of her grandchildren, Nick Warner of Culver City, California, Mikayla (Mason) Cain of Lake Tahoe, California, John Klumpp of Des Moines, Iowa, Kyle (Ali) Klumpp of Urbandale, Iowa, AnneMarie (Gabe) Dannenbring of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Elisabeth (Matt) Fitzgerald of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Andrew Klumpp of Des Moines, Iowa, and Geoffrey (Abi) Klumpp of Pocahontas, Iowa; great-grandchildren Kamryn and Kadyn Klumpp of Pocahontas, Iowa.  She is also survived by her stepson Kent (Becky) Lewis of Cherokee, Iowa, and stepdaughter, Kris (Phillip) Sargent of Muscatine, Iowa; siblings Doris (Russell) Grashoff of Cherokee, Iowa, Roberta Radke of Alta, Iowa, and John (Lynette) Smith of Cherokee, Iowa; brother-in-law Larry Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa; sister-in-law Patty Smith of Gold Canyon, Arizona, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
