Cherokee Public Library: A Cornerstone of Community Service National Library Week 2025

The Cherokee Public Library's story began in 1886 when twelve forward-thinking women established what would become a cornerstone of our community. The library's physical home came to fruition thanks to the generosity of the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, which granted $10,000 in January 1903, followed by an additional $2,000 the next year. The beautiful building was dedicated in April 1905 and remarkably continues to house the library today—a testament to both architectural excellence and the community's stewardship of this valuable resource.
