On the very windy Saturday morning of April 12th, the Special Olympics team had their area track meet at Dordt University in Sioux Center. They were faced with a bitter cold morning with persistent winds throughout the afternoon. Despite almost being blown away during their races our athletes pushed themselves and were able to come out on top with several 1st place finishes. Charlie Harmon placed 1st in the shot put and 2nd in the 50 meter dash. Catelyn Younie battled against the wind during the windiest part of the day to get a 1st place finish in the 1500 meter run, while also getting 1st place in her division in the running long jump. Kendra Robinson had a PR in the 800 meter while securing a 1st place finish and getting 1st place in her division in the running long jump. Congrats to all the athletes on their job in the area competition. Those who placed 1st will move on to the state competition at Iowa State University on May 23-24.
