Elsie C. “Babe” Tigges, 91, of Cherokee passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Visitation with the family present will be held an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Afton Township Cemetery at rural Cherokee. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Elsie was born on July 27, 1934, to Theodore and Elsie (Chiles) Webb at Cherokee. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1952. She attended Graceland College in Lamoni. She was united in marriage to Carroll W. Tigges on Oct. 11, 1953, at Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
They lived on the farm until they moved to Cherokee in 2014.
She was a lifelong member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was very active in church, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, president of women's group, Sunday school secretary and pianist. She was a Cub Scout pack leader and president of the Little League Association in Peterson.
Elsie enjoyed spending time with her family and doing puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Roger in 1978.
Elsie is survived by her husband Carroll Tigges of Cherokee; two sons: Mark (Linda) Tigges of Clive; and Larry (Cindy) Tigges of Lanark, Ill.; daughter Gerri (Tom) Reints of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren: Cody (Elizabeth) Tigges of Grinnell; Carson (Tarah) Tigges of Hudson; Carissa Tigges of Grinnell; Tara (Mike) Christians of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Tyler (Kristin) Tigges of London, England; Tate Tigges of Freeport, Ill.; and Mekayla Reints of Grundy Center; 11 great-grandchildren: Eleanor Tigges, Nelson Tigges, Brady Berg, Eli Tigges, Indy Tigges, Violet Christians, Theodore Christians, Marigold Christians, Elliott Tigges, Ever Tigges and Ember Tigges; and sister Donna (Rodney) Groepper of Cherokee.
