Freddie J. Harder

FREDDIE J. HARDER, 92, of Quimby, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024 after battling cancer for a few years and a short stay at Accura Healthcare of Cherokee, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate.  Visitation with the family present will be held at 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday, October 19, 2024.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Freddie was born on September 19, 1932 to Fred and Fannie (Burns) Harder at Washta, Iowa.  He attended Willow Community Schools, graduating in 1952.  He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Nancy Brandt on October 26, 1951. They made it almost 73 years.

He farmed for over 31 years in Washta, Iowa and was a concrete cutter for Diversified Concrete Cutting in Reno Nevada until his retirement in September 1997. Freddie and Nancy relocated back to Quimby after they retired and really enjoyed being back home.

He was affiliated with the Methodist Church.  Freddie was an active member of the Quimby Golf Course.  He volunteered many hours, helping with whatever was needed of him

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball, men’s fast pitch and slow pitch softball.  He loved watching sports and good old cowboy shows and westerns. He liked playing cards, gardening, golfing, cooking, and he cherished spending time with his family.

Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Fannie Harder, son Dennis Harder, grandsons Andrew Joseph “A.J.” Harder, and Russell Harder, siblings, Charles Harder, Dean Harder, Carol Mae Harder, Nila Sevey, and  Doreen Kirkman.

Freddie will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Nancy of Quimby, Iowa; children Doug Harder of Norco, California, Jeff Harder of Cherokee, Iowa, Robbin (Bruce) Severin of Charles City, Iowa, Ronnie (Amy) Harder of Newport Beach, California, Bryan (Janeen) Harder of Yorba Linda, California; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brother Randall Harder of Nampa, Idaho; sister Marcia Brandt of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister-in-laws Caren Lewis, Jeanette Thomas, and Della Rupp; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
