Jean was born on March 1, 1935 to James and Isabel (Blacklock) Logan in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Her family moved to Minneapolis when she entered junior high. It was there that she took her first art class and began her love of painting. The family then moved to Cherokee where she attended Washington High School. She met Kermit Freed and they married on April 3, 1953. Jean and Kerm moved to a farm north of Cherokee.

Jean's career in fashion really began when she started to work at Hope's Fashion Farm. After many years at Hope's, Jean started her own business Jeanne's Boutique on Main Street in Cherokee. It was a place where Jean's artistic talents and love of fashion could be on display. She soon opened two other stores in Spencer and Okoboji, as well as a bridal shop in Okoboji.

Jean loved spending time with her family and painting. She enjoyed painting with her neighbor, Dixie Anderson. Their artistic talents made them instant friends and they truly loved sharing time together painting. She especially loved art classes. She attended while staying in L.A. for the winter with her daughter, Kandice.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Kerm, brother David Logan, stepfather Rufus Limpp, and sister-in-law.

Jean will lovingly be remembered by her children, Kim (Mark) Lockwood of Cherokee, Iowa, Kandice Stephens of Dallas, Texas, Brian (Vickie) Freed of Cherokee, Iowa, Krista (Mark) Wilcox of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and Aaron (Nanci) Freed of Union, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren, Erica (Clint) Harrison, Matt (Lynette) Lockwood, Kristian (Stephanie) Freed, Denise Freed, Jose Freed, Jacob (Nicole) Wilcox, Sarah (Isaiah) Skrdla, and Adam Wilcox; 13 great grandchildren, Madelyn, Marcus, and Mason Harrison, Graham Freed, Noah, Samuel, and Thomas Freed, Haley and Hannah Wilcox, and Gavin, Adalyn, Laurel, and Faith Skrdla; sister Mary Jane (Tom) Bradley of Kansas City, Missouri.
