JoAnn was born on May 16, 1933, the youngest of six children to Joseph and Anna (Goetzinger) Schnepf in Oyens. As a daughter of farmers, she chose to marry a farmer, Herman J. Reinert, on April 20, 1954. They settled in Rock Township on Herman’s parents’ farm, where she did everything that made farm wives special. She was equally adept at backing a wagon full of grain, doing farm work, planting a huge garden every year, canning produce, baking bread and feeding any visitor who was fortunate enough to come to her table. JoAnn and Herman became winter Texans in 1985 and after Herman’s death, JoAnn moved to Donna, Texas, in 2006 to permanently enjoy the warmth and friendships that she and Herman had shared together.
Her life continued to be marked by deep, long-lasting friendships, many evenings of very competitive card playing, quilting and baking her amazing bread.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 13, 2001; and her siblings and their spouses: Robert and Marie Schnepf, William and Bernadette Schnepf, Doris and Oswald Arens, Hildegard and Harold Cerveny and Milo and Helen Schnepf.
JoAnn is survived by her children: Susan (Ron) Huggler of San Antonio, Texas; Thomas of McMinnville, Ore.; Patrick (Marla) of Cedar Rapids; Matthew (Ellie Rosenfeld) of Fairport, N.Y.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Barbara Reinert of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Juniper Village in San Antonio for their care and support.
