Karen Pedersen, 80, of Cherokee passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held at a later date. Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.greenwoodfuneral.com. 

Karen Kay Pedersen, the daughter of Floyd and Ruth (Whitter) Moore, was born on Feb. 16, 1945, in Sac City. Her childhood years were spent in Early and Nemaha, where she attended school. She later graduated from nursing school.

Karen was united in marriage to Donald “Pete" Pedersen. In 1981, they moved to Cherokee. Karen worked for several nursing homes in the Cherokee area for many years and worked as a traveling nurse.

In her free time, Karen loved fishing, camping and sewing. Most of all, she loved the time spent with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ruth Moore; husband Pete Pedersen; brothers, Kenneth Moore and Gary Moore; sister Elizabeth Langner; and daughter-in-law Stacy Lenhart.

She will lovingly be remembered by her children: Scott Birt of Webster City; Troy Lenhart of Ida Grove; Shawn and Karen Smith of Owatonna, Minn.; Bryan and Michelle Pedersen of Cherokee; Kent and Jana Pedersen of Cascade; Mike and Veronica Pedersen of Crystal Lak; and Chad and Trudy Pedersen of Milford; brothers, Ron Moore of Webster City; and Mel (Peggy) Moore of Webster City; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
