Kathy Sue Fick

KATHY SUE FICK, 70, of Quimby, Iowa, passed away, Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, Iowa. Pastor Alex Kaldahl will officiate.  Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa.  Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  There will be a family prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening.  Online condolences and future service information may be found at www.boothbyfuneral.com.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to them for a future project in Kathy’s honor. 

Kathy was born on June 28, 1954 to William “Dave” and Maurine (Boysen) Powell at Cherokee, Iowa.  She graduated from Willow Community School in 1972.  She went on and earned her Dental Assistant degree at Iowa Central Community College in August 1973. 

She was united in marriage to Tom Fick on April 12, 1975 at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Marcus, Iowa.  She worked for the Cargill Elevator, Cherokee Mental Health Institute, Shell in Quimby, Iowa, and for the River Valley Community School District from 1994-2001 as a teacher’s aide, paraeducator, and district secretary from 1994-2001. Kathy was most recently serving as the church secretary at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby.

She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, Iowa.  She belonged to the Quimby Spitfires and River Valley Music Boosters. 

Her hobbies included reading, gardening, crocheting, bird watching and watching television.  She loved any time that she was able to spend with family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Dave and Maurine Powell, her husband Tom Fick, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Harvey and Marlene Fick.

Kathy will lovingly be remembered by her children Amber and Tim Nelson of Quimby, Iowa and Andy Fick and Rob Sietsema of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one granddaughter EmaLeigh Nelson of Washta, Iowa; sisters Karen and Greg Ebersole of Storm Lake, Iowa, Kandice and Bob Herron of Quimby, Iowa, and Kelley and Mike Ellis of Meriden, Iowa; brother-in-law Ron (Phyllis) Fick of Paton, Iowa; sister-in-law Marcia (John) Smith of Aurelia, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; many extended family members and friends.
