Larry Clayton Rohweder

Larry Clayton Rohweder, age 94, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on January 21, 2025 at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. OBITUARY

Larry Clayton Rohweder, son of John (Jack) and Marion Steffen Rohweder, was born April 30, 1930, on a farm north of Royal, Iowa. He graduated from Everly High School in 1947. He worked farming until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1954 as well as an Army Occupation Medal  for his service in Germany and a National Defense Service Medal. After being discharged he went back to farming until he started working for Wilson Foods in Cherokee, where he worked  for 29 years.  In retirement he helped his wife with her home daycare business, was a security guard at the HyVee warehouse, and a groundskeeper at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Larry was confirmed in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Royal, IA in 1945.

Larry married Bonnie Darlene Graff in 1956 and had his first son, Jeffery Harold. He also adopted Bonnie’s son John Charles.  

Larry later married Joyce Ann Hallcock on June 5,1965 in Storm Lake, IA. They added two more children to the family, Brett Allen and Heidi Sue after moving to Cherokee, IA.   

Larry enjoyed joining friends for coffee and a morning chat. Following a heart attack in March of 1992, he could be seen taking a daily walk around Spring Lake Park.  He also enjoyed reloading shells in his basement, hunting, fishing, helping his son, Brett, with trapping, supporting his local Little League, and watching baseball on TV. When his name was mentioned to his nursing facility caregivers they would always smile and talk about how much they enjoyed him. 

On January 21, 2025 , Larry passed away while a resident at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marion Rohweder, his adopted son, John Charles Rohweder, and his wife Joyce.

He will be fondly remembered by his children, Jeffery Rohweder (Deborah) of Ankeny, IA, Geoffrey Hallcock of Laurens, IA, Brett (Lauren) Rohweder of Ankeny, IA, and Heidi (Don) Trent of Ankeny, IA; his grandchildren Adrianne (Blake) Wells of Sloansville, NY, Wesley (Lindsey) Rohweder, of Ankeny, IA, Tanner and Carter Rohweder of Ankeny, IA, Malerie Rohweder of North Liberty, IA, Riley and Devynn Trent of Ankeny, IA; his great grandchildren, Sawyer, Cooper, Barrett, and Scarlett Rohweder, and Lilly Wells, his brother Kirby Rohweder (Yankton, SD); and many of his Rydstrom relatives.
