LAURA L. SCHMIDT, 62, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at MercyOne Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Laura was born on July 27, 1962 to Bill and Leona (Boone) Moret at Cherokee, Iowa. She graduated from Willow Community High School in 1981. She was united in marriage to Russell Schmidt on June 19, 1982 at Washta Methodist Church. She worked as a certified nurse aide at Cherokee Villa before working as as a medication aide at Buena Vista Regional Hospital until her retirement in 2016 due to her disability.
She was a member of the Methodist Church.
In her free time she enjoyed going to music concerts, camping, decorating the house for all of the holidays and especially loved seeing her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lloyd Moret, sister-in-law Jean Moret, and brother-in-law Bounsom Lovan
Laura is survived by her husband Russell of Cherokee, Iowa; children Stephanie Bruening (Josh) Keck of Cherokee, Iowa and Andy (Sarah) Schmidt of Sioux City, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, Michael, Hudsen, Raylin, and Mikaela Schmidt, Lucas Bruening, Jonathan Keck, Stormy Kenkel, William Keck, and Charlotte Keck; siblings Linda (Roger) Groves of Sioux City, Iowa, Dennis (Cindy) Moret of Sioux City, Iowa, Clyde (Carla) Moret of Windom, Minnesota, Richard (Michelle) Moret of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Dave Moret of Washta, Iowa, Sheryl Hofer of Sioux City, Iowa, and Lisa (Bob) Mitchell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; also several nieces and nephews.
