Annual Hanover Historical Society fundraising meal is Sept. 26

The Hanover Historical Society invites the public to savor traditional homemade German cooking at the 11th Annual German Feast Meal, a fundraiser supporting Hanover Village and its annual festival.

This year’s German Feast will be a drive-thru, carry-out dinner on Saturday, Sept. 26, with meals available for pickup between 6 and 6:45 p.m. at the Aurelia Community Center, 235 Main St., Aurelia.

Tickets are $25 per meal and must be reserved before Sept. 23 by calling the Hanover Feast Reservation Line at 712-434-5888. You may mail payment to Hanover German Feast, 6309 20th Ave., Alta, IA 51002. Please include your phone number.

A meal to remember

This year’s German Feast menu features:

  • Tiefenthaler brats with Bavarian sauerkraut (made with fresh kraut)
  • Warm German potato salad, loaded with bacon
  • Sauerbraten (tender, slow-cooked roast beef)
  • Mashed potatoes with savory gingersnap gravy
  • Homegrown sweet corn
  • Homemade applesauce
  • Creamy cucumber salad
  • Fresh, locally grown garden tomatoes
  • Home-canned beet pickles
  • Homemade, from-scratch apple cake with rich butter sauce

Many area farmers and gardeners contribute their fresh produce, making this dinner a truly homegrown effort. A fall favorite in Northwest Iowa, the meal is especially popular among farmers during the busy harvest season.

Supporting local heritage

Proceeds from the event benefit Hanover Village, a local treasure southwest of Alta, and its annual festival, which keeps local history alive through fun, family-friendly events, educational programs, and volunteer opportunities. Members, volunteers and donations are always welcome. Contact us at hanoveriowa@gmail.com or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/HanoverIA/.

Reserve your meal today and enjoy the delicious taste of classic German food while supporting the Hanover Historical Society.
