MEDCO recognized Jordan's Meat Market, owned and operated by Jordan Morris, as its Business of the Year, celebrating its significant contribution to the Marcus community. Grant Leavitt presented the award, noting “the privilege of recognizing a business that embodies the spirit of hard work, dedication and community impact.” Leavitt emphasized the business's "commitment to excellence," noting its state-of-the-art facility offering high-quality custom processing for various meats. He also highlighted the rapid expansion from four to twelve employees and the achievement of USDA federal inspection in just one year, paving the way for further expansion, including a new retail location in Le Mars. Leavitt praised Jordan's Meat Market as a "must-stop-shop" in Marcus, adding “Jordan’s Meat Market represents the values we hold dear in Marcus: hard work, ambition, and commitment to the local community. Marcus is a town that thrives on supporting its businesses, and Jordan's Meat Market has truly become a part of that foundation.” Morris accepted his award, telling the audience that he felt “very lucky to have the opportunity not only to start this business, but to grow as fast as it has, and to be so young and new into this business owner field. It's a very special honor for me to accept this award.”
The Marcus Chamber of Commerce named Anna Erdman its 2024 Volunteer of the Year, recognizing her contributions to the community. Grant Leavitt, representing the chamber, presented the award, citing Erdman's "dedication, passion and tireless efforts." He praised her leadership in making Marcus "an even better place to live, work and play." Erdman, a lifelong Marcus resident, was a leader in the development of the Marcus Walking Trail, securing $720,000 in grants and donations for the project's first phase. She is also a founding member of the annual Marcus Trail Color Run and serves with the Marcus Action Club. Leavitt explained that Erdman, when asked about her time and efforts as a volunteer, said, "I am passionate about the community." She continued, "seeing people come together and enjoy what we've built makes it all worth it." Leavitt said Erdman's "dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment to Marcus inspires us all. Our community is brighter because of Anna's work. We are grateful for her."
