Mary Jane Brown, 95, of Peterson passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at her home surrounded by family.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, March 12, at First Congregational Church in Peterson. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery at Peterson. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Mary's honor to Avera Hospice in Spencer.
Mary was born on June 19, 1930, to Herbert and Buelah (Martin) Mason at her home in Sutherland. She attended Calumet and Sutherland Schools graduating in 1948. She was united in marriage on Oct. 10, 1951, to James “Jim” Lee Brown.
After high school graduation she worked in Marathon candling eggs, then in Sutherland at the Creamery and began working at the U.S. Post Office in the 60s until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of First Congregational Church in Peterson. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship, a 74-year member of Peterson Legion Auxiliary, and a past Sioux Valley school board member.
In her free time she loved to sew, bake, play cards, entertain people that came over and most of all, spend time with family and attend her kids and grandkids sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; son Scott; brother Dale Mason; brother-in-law Wayne Brown; sisters-in-law: Patricia Mason, Shirley Mason and Jayne Brown; and stepfather Bill Salmen.
Mary is survived by her children: Mike (Karen) Brown of Sutherland; daughter-in-law Deb Brown of Peterson; Alice (Mick) Wetherell of Cleghorn; Bob (Tammy) Brown of Peterson; Dan (Nicki) Brown of San Jose, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and three on the way; sister Bette Mason; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
