Peggy Lou Cougill-Carsten, 87, of Whiting, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.
Peggy Lou was born October 1, 1937 in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Bessie (Wilson) Freeman. She grew up in Cleghorn, Iowa where she attended school.
Peggy and Lyle Cougill were united into marriage August 21, 1955 in Cherokee. To this union six children were born, Bob, Cheryl, David, Dan, Jim, and Carol. Lyle passed away September 12, 1996.
Peggy and Gerald Carsten were united into marriage September 4, 1999.
After retiring from Heritage Bank in Aurelia, Iowa, she worked at JC Penny’s for pleasure. Peggy traveled on many bus trips through the bank. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and being a cub scout leader. Her family meant the world to her, especially all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peggy was a member of the Community Church of Christ, Sloan, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Carsten; children, Bob (Stacey) Cougill of Kansas City, Missouri, Cheryl (Brent) Bouma of Orange City, Iowa, David (Anita) Cougill of Cherokee, Iowa, Dan (Carli) Cougill of Sioux City, Iowa, Jim (Chrystal) Cougill of Waterbury, Nebraska, and Carol (Brian) Hobbs of Whiting, Iowa; grandchildren, Christopher (Lydia) Cougill, Joshua Cougill, Sara (Justin) Oehm, Justin (Lacy) Bresnahan, Jessie (Eric) Huitink, Micaela (Bobby) Rice, Jennifer (Justin) Witzke, Jill (Corey) Putnam, Jessica (Wesley) Schneider, Josh (Kennedy) Johnson, Jenna (Matt) Boon, Emily (Joel) Boggs, Abby (Cole) Forbey, Brooklyn (Zach) Snyder, Keegan Cougill, Brennan Cougill, Kaylee (Kendall) Duerksen and Kyler (JoAnna) Hobbs; thirty-four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patty (Carl) Puhrmann of Hartley, Iowa, and Betty (Mick) Wilson of Milford, Iowa; her beloved dog, Molly; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bessie (Wilson) Freeman; husband, Lyle Cougill, grandson, Perry Cougill; sister, Gala DeGoyer; and brother, Jodi Freeman.
A public visitation (with family present) was 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. A private family graveside service was held at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa, with Dr. Emery Killian, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
