Pilot Rock DAR Chapter invites the public to our Awards Program on Sunday, February 2nd at Sanford Museum. The museum is located at 117 E. Willow in Cherokee. The program starts at 1:30PM and will spotlight area youth and adults.

Pilot Rock DAR Chapter will be presenting Good Citizen Awards to area high school seniors. The DAR Good Citizen program and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the following qualities: Dependability, Service to others, Leadership, and Patriotism. The students will be recognized from Alta-Aurelia, MMCRU, River Valley, Sioux Central, Cherokee and Ridge View

A chapter Historic Preservation Award will be presented to the Cherokee County Archive volunteers, who work diligently in the basement of the Library clipping newspaper articles and obituaries, filing them and assisting patrons who are seeking historical information from this area. Their current project is digitizing Cherokee School yearbooks.

The Marcus Trails Committee will receive a Chapter Conservation Award for all their efforts in creating a beautiful walking trail for the public to enjoy the outdoors safely. A Chapter Literacy Award will be given to the Aurelia Library board for their work in promoting reading to young and old through their work at the Aurelia Library.

Pilot Rock Chapter will also be presenting a National Community Service Award to the Cherokee Color Guard. They can be seen at many Cherokee events such parades, fairs, football games, and military funerals proudly displaying our country’s flag and promoting patriotism.

The Pilot Rock DAR Chapter hopes that you will come and join us for this special program honoring local youth and adults.
