Steven M. Braunschweig, age 72 of Sidney, IA passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at his home with his family around him.
Steven Michael Braunschweig was born on August 11, 1952 in Cherokee, IA; the son of Gerhardt “Gary” Wesley and Helen Mae (Borgeson) Braunschweig. He attended Aurelia High School and graduated with the Class of 1970. He later joined the United States Army in 1971 and served his country during the Vietnam War before his discharge in 1973.
Steve attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA and later transferred to Western Iowa Technical College at Sioux City, NE where he studied carpentry.
He worked at American Meter in Nebraska City for some 20 years and later did various carpentry jobs for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Steve was united in marriage to Judy M. (Gress) Schultz on December 17, 1994 in Sidney, IA and they shared 30 years together.
He is survived by his wife Judy Braunschweig of Sidney, IA; children: Chad Braunschweig (Angie) of Alabaster, AL, Ryan Braunschweig (April Gray) of Clinton, MO, Aryn Walker (William) of Calhoun, MO and Chris Denker (Jack) of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren: Logan Braunschweig, Cade Braunschweig, Tristen Braunschweig, Ty Walker (Riana), Zachery Walker, Laci Walker, Nolan Denker and Jaelyn Witte (Beau); seven great-grandchildren: DeKarr Farris, James Farris, Andre Farris, Ace Witte, Enzo Witte, Shiloh Witte and Ryan Braunschweig; siblings: Shirley Sundberg of Aurelia, IA, Mark Braunschweig (Janene) of Cherokee, IA, Carol Ballantyne (Craig) of Aurelia, IA, John Braunschweig (Valerie) of Cheyenne, WY and Joyce Lundsgaard (Tim) of Cherokee, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law: Terry Ehmke (Harold) of Avoca, NE, Larry Gress of Millard, NE, Carol Jean Fitzgerald of Omaha, NE and Harold Gress (Ruth Driever) of Nebr. City, NE; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother Wes Braunschweig, his parents Gary and Helen Braunschweig; father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold and Margaret Gress, sister-in-law, Fran Gress and brother-in-law Bill Fitzgerald.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Victory Life Church in Sidney, IA with Pastor Joe Eberly officiating. Immediately following the services, all are invited to lunch in the church basement. To honor Steve, casual attire (jeans) are encouraged. Private Family Inurnment will be held at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City, NE.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Victory Life Christian Center in Sidney, IA or the Sidney Avenue of Flags.
