Accident Report

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on April 6 at 1:44 pm. Christopher Paul Nelson, 29, Meriden, was traveling westbound on Iowa Hwy 3 in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado as an emergency vehicle in response to a fire call in Cleghorn when he lost control of the vehicle on the curve by L51. Nelson entered the north shoulder, eventually rolling and coming to rest in the ditch approximately 75 yards west of the initial contact with the shoulder. Officers consider wind gusts in excess of 40 mph as a contributing factor but cited Nelson for failure to maintain control. There were suspected minor injuries and Nelson was transported to Cherokee Regional Medical Center. The vehicle was totaled and had to be towed.
