Bonnie Rae Johnson was born in Cherokee on February 17, 1946, to her parents Gunnar and Astrid (Nelson) Johnson. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1964.  She then attended CE School of Business in Omaha, NE.  On July 31, 1965, Bonnie  was united in marriage to Dale (Butch) Sleezer, Jr. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  The couple made their home on a farm north of Aurelia until moving to Storm Lake a year ago. They were blessed with three sons: Douglas, Derrick, and Dana.  Bonnie loved living, working, and raising a family on the farm. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and involved in many church activities.  Bonnie was a very active member of Via de Cristo, bringing many members into the faith-based organization. Over the years, she enjoyed cooking, card clubs, playing golf, riding in her red convertible, and traveling to Florida. She took great delight in her grandchildren and watching their sporting events. Bonnie could always be found with her dog Wilson by her side.  She thoroughly enjoyed living at the lake and watching the activities on the water.

Bonnie died on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia where she had been a resident for just one day.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Connie Allen (twin sister), Dale and Marjorie Sleezer, Sr. (mother- and father-in-law), Pat Johansen (sister-in-law), and David Sullivan (brother-in-law).

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 58 years, Butch of Storm Lake.  Her three sons, Douglas of Atlanta, GA, Derrick (Erin Tolan Keig), and his daughter, Brianna of Omaha, NE, Dana (Nicky) and their children Kaleb (Katie Streiff), Levi, and Gavin, all of Aurelia. Her brother, Gerald (Helen) Johnson of Lynchburg, VA, sister-in-law Janet Sullivan of Aurelia, and three brothers-in-law, Jim Johansen of Cherokee, Robert (Diane) Sleezer of Aurelia, and Robert Allen of Aurelia.  Many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and close friends.
