DOROTHY J. SIMONSEN, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 7th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Mark Leeds will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Dorothy was born on May 21, 1937 to Everett and Hattie (Hottendorff) Radle. She attended Aurelia Schools, graduating in 1955. She went on to continue her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. She was united in marriage to Myron Cipperley on February 23, 1958 at Holstein, Iowa. She was later married to Merle Simonsen on March 26, 2013.
Dorothy worked as a certified nursing assistant, retiring in 2006.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Storm Lake, where she served as a deacon, President of Ladies Aide, helping with Vacation Bible School and teaching Sunday School Classes. She was currently attending the Heritage Bible Church in Cherokee, Iowa.
Dorothy was a member of White Cross Service League.
In her free time, she enjoyed reading, crafts, and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Myron Cipperley, her parents, brother Jerry Radle, and one great grandchild.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Merle Simonsen of Cherokee, Iowa; children, Brett (Linda) Cipperley of Ogallala, Nebraska, Jan Anderson from Hartley, Iowa, Linn (Chuck) Price of Paton, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; five step children; several step grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
