Construction site rollover

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s office responded to a semi rollover accident at 9:02 am on May 17, 2024 at 590th Street near U Avenue. The investigation concluded that Gregory Rens,55 of Hull, was carrying rock in a 2015 Peterbilt for J&R Trucking Inc. from Sheldon when he backed up to a bridge construction project. Rens attempted to dump the rock with his side dump trailer, causing the entire truck and trailer to roll into the ditch. No injuries were sustained and the Peterbilt received disabling damage estimated at $20,000.

Deer leads to rollover accident

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s office responded to a single vehicle rollover accident on C66 East of Washta on May 18 at 6:15 am. Tuffy Newman, 55 of Pierson, was driving a 2004 Pontiac SUV westbound on C66 when a deer came out of the South ditch. Newman made a hard turn to the right to avoid the animal, losing control of his vehicle. He crossed the white line, went down the embankment to the ditch, struck a hard portion of earth, and rolled. The vehicle came to rest on its top and was totaled. Newman was uninjured.

Cross wind leads to overturned camper

On May 20 at 10:08 Arnold Netten, 73 of Aurelia, was traveling westbound in a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe while towing a sportsman travel trailer camper near Hwy 3 and M Avenue. While negotiating the curve, Netten’s camper began to fishtail in the cross wind from an oncoming semi truck and trailer. Netten lost control and the camper overturned, landing on its side. The Tahoe came to rest in the east bound lane, facing east with the camper on the passenger side of the road, suspending the rear of the vehicle in the air. No injuries were reported and an estimated $5,000 in functional damage was received.
